Request a Free ConsultationSTEM Bridge Advisors was founded on a simple belief: the students who will make the most meaningful contributions to science and medicine are not always the ones with the most polished applications. Sometimes they just need the right guidance to find their footing.
That belief came from experience — navigating the journey from international student to PhD to researcher at two of the most elite institutions in the United States, and figuring out along the way exactly what it takes to succeed.
Dr. Shahab completed her PhD in Pharmacology at Wayne State University School of Medicine, where she led a five-year independent research program on cisplatin-induced cochlear damage and contributed to a $1.7 million NIH R01 grant. She went on to complete postdoctoral research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center — the number one cancer center in the United States — working in translational oncology, before joining the University of Michigan as a postdoctoral researcher and lecturer in vision neuroscience.
During her PhD applications, she applied to 10 programs and received fully funded offers from all 10. That experience — understanding exactly how to position a research profile, write a Statement of Purpose, and approach professors strategically — became the foundation for what is now STEM Bridge Advisors.
"I figured out the PhD application process the hard way. STEM Bridge Advisors exists so you don't have to."
With six peer-reviewed publications in journals including Hearing Research, Molecular Neurobiology, and Toxicology and Applied Pharmacology, and active service as an invited reviewer for Nature Portfolio and Springer Nature, Dr. Shahab brings genuine scientific expertise to every student engagement. She currently works with students at Stanford, UPenn, Emory, NYU, Rutgers, the University of Michigan, and other leading research universities through STEM Bridge Advisors.
She is currently completing an Applied Machine Learning certificate at Columbia University, expanding the consultancy's capacity to support students in computational biology, bioinformatics, and data science applications.

There are many consultants. There is only one STEM Bridge Advisors. Here is why it matters where you go for guidance.
At STEM Bridge Advisors every student gets a customized roadmap built around their specific background, goals, and timeline. Our packages exist because every student's journey is different — some need a full application strategy, others need a research paper, others need both. You never get a generic template here. And if you're not ready for a full package, hourly coaching and counseling is available too — expert guidance exactly when you need it, without any long-term commitment. We work with you based on where you are, not where we assume you should be.
Most consultants can only help with applications. At STEM Bridge Advisors we can guide you through writing and publishing a real peer-reviewed research paper — whether your background is molecular biology, neuroscience, physiology, cancer biology, general biology, or pharmacology. This expertise was built over a decade of active research across multiple scientific disciplines. Having six published papers and serving as an active peer reviewer for Nature Portfolio and Springer Nature means we understand the publication process from the inside — and we bring that knowledge directly to your work. This is exceptionally rare in the consulting space.
Our founder applied to 10 PhD programs and received fully funded offers from all 10. That didn't happen by accident — it came from understanding exactly what admissions committees look for and building an application that speaks directly to those criteria. Most applicants treat the application as a checklist. We treat it as a strategic positioning exercise. Every element — the Statement of Purpose, the professor outreach, the research narrative, the letters of recommendation strategy — is crafted with the admissions committee's perspective in mind. That knowledge is the foundation of everything we do at STEM Bridge Advisors and it is what we bring to every student we work with.
PhD programs can make or break you depending on your advisor — yet nobody teaches students how to choose one. The research mentor relationship is one of the most consequential decisions a graduate student makes, and most students make it blindly. At STEM Bridge Advisors we teach students how to identify, evaluate, and approach research mentors strategically — how to recognize a great mentor versus a difficult one, how to read a lab's culture before committing, and how to build a relationship that sets you up for long-term success from day one. This guidance is simply not available anywhere else, and it can be the difference between a thriving PhD experience and a deeply difficult one.
STEM Bridge Advisors was built on firsthand experience training and working at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center — the number one cancer center in the United States — and the University of Michigan, a Public Ivy ranked in the global top 25. We don't read about what top research environments value in candidates. We lived it. Working at these institutions means understanding not just what gets students in, but what makes them succeed once they arrive — the culture, the expectations, the unspoken standards. That insider perspective is directly applied to every student's application strategy, research mentorship, and long-term career planning.
